Course Overview

The Enter and Work in Confined Spaces course helps people attain a confined space entry permit to safely work in confined spaces.

Any worker who will be working in a confined space, supervising confined space work, using a permit, monitoring gas levels, or wearing breathing apparatus must hold a confined space ticket

Prerequisites & Course Requirements

  • Persons must be 15 years of age or older
  • Photo ID must be presented i.e. current drivers licence, passport or proof of age card.
  • Basic numeracy skills.
  • Basic English language and literacy
  • USI Number
  • Appropriate clothing (Hi Vis shirt, long pants, with steel cap boots)

How Is the Course Delivered?

The RIIWHS202E course is delivered through face-to-face training, on site at your preferred suitable location, ensuring you gain hands-on experience in a controlled environment.

The course is designed to be completed in up to six (6) hours, giving you a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical applications.

What Will You Learn?

  • Plan and prepare for working in confined space: Obtain, interpret and confirm work requirements. Access, interpret and apply documentation required to enter and work in confined spaces. Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures according to workplace procedures. Obtain and confirm authorisation of a confined space entry permit that meets regulatory requirements. Select and wear appropriate personal protective equipment for planned work activities. Obtain and interpret emergency procedures with the stand-by person, and be prepared for emergency situations. Identify, obtain and implement signage and barrier requirements according to workplace procedures. Select tools and equipment for the tasks, check for serviceability and rectify or report any faults to relevant personnel. Position rescue equipment by the entry permit.
  • Work in confined space: Gain access to confined space. Test and monitor the atmosphere for harmful elements according to workplace procedures. Correctly apply tagging and lock-out procedures. Enter the confined space according to workplace procedures. Maintain ongoing communication with the stand-by person. Comply with entry permit requirements. Monitor and adhere to allocated entry time.
  • Exit confined space: Exit confined space according to workplace procedures. Recover tools, equipment and materials. Conduct inspection of the confined spaces according to workplace procedures. Remove tagging and lock-out procedures. Complete confined space entry permit requirements according to workplace procedures.
  • Clean up: Clear work area and dispose of materials according to workplace procedures. Remove, clean and store barriers and signs. Conduct equipment inspections to identify faults according to manufacturer specifications and workplace procedures and report to relevant personnel. Conduct routine operational servicing, lubrication and housekeeping activities according to workplace procedures. Process written maintenance records according to workplace procedures

Course Structure and Assessment

Students will be assessed through a combination of practical demonstrations, scenario-based assessments, and written or verbal questioning.

This comprehensive assessment process ensures you are fully competent in all aspects of confined space training before being awarded your qualification.

Licensing and Certification

Upon successful completion of this unit, you will receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for:

RIIWHS202E – Enter and work in confined spaces.

 

Course Fees

The MSMWHS217 – Gas test atmospheres course is available for $265

High Risk Training Academy (HRTA), deliver and assess this course under a third-party agreement with AOTA RTO #91463.

Certificates are issued by AOTA Training after all documentation has been submitted and course fees paid.

AOTA issue your certificate upon successful completion of your course, typically within 7-10 business days.
