Course Overview

Licence to Operate a Forklift Truck is for participants to gain the necessary skills to plan, prepare and complete forklift work.

A forklift truck is a powered industrial truck with a mast and an elevating load carriage that holds a pair of fork arms or other attachments, which can lift loads 900 mm or more above the ground. It does not include a pedestrian-operated truck or a pallet truck.

Participants who are successful in the completion of this training course will be at an advantage to secure job within the industrial, mining, oil and gas sectors

Where Can This Qualification Take You?

There are a number of important roles in various sectors, such as resources, freight and logistics, and more, that require TLILIC0003 – License to Operate a Forklift Truck.

Prerequisites & Course Requirements

  • Persons must be 18 years of age or older
  • Photo ID must be presented i.e. current drivers licence or passport
  • Basic numeracy skills.
  • Basic English language and literacy
  • USI Number
  • Appropriate clothing (Hi Vis shirt, long pants, with steel cap boots)

How Is the Course Delivered?

The TLILIC0003 course is delivered through face-to-face training, on site at your preferred suitable location, ensuring you gain hands-on experience in a controlled environment.

The course is designed to be completed in up to two (2) days, giving you a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical applications.

What Will You Learn?

Planning the Task:

  • Review instructions, gather and interpret safety and workplace information.
  • Work area is assessed for suitability for operating the forklift.
  • Assessing the suitability of the forklift and attachement working load limit for lifting the load.
  • Identify hazards and inspect the paths for operating the forklift.
  • Traffic management plans are implemented, appropriate communications procedures are identified and work is carried out in accordance with workplace procedures.

Prepare for work/task:

  • Confirm workplan clarity through consultation.
  • Evaluate environmental impact.
  • Verify risk controls for hazards.
  • Check Forklift logbook.
  • Carry out pre start checks and report any defects.
  • Conduct Operational Checks and report and defects.
  • Ensure hazard and risk controls measures are communicated and in place.

Perform work / task:

  • Weight and positioning of load is assessed via compliance with forklift data plate.
  • Operate forklift safely as per Australian standards.
  • Monitor load stability when using forklift.
  • Respond to safety issues as they arise.
  • Properly pick up, transport and place loads.
  • Ensure forklift is parked, switched off and isolated appropriately

Pack Up:

  • Complete forklift shutdown in line with safety procedures.
  • Secure the forklift to prevent unauthorised use.

Course Structure and Assessment

Students will be assessed through a combination of practical demonstrations, scenario-based assessments, and written or verbal questioning.

This comprehensive assessment process ensures you are fully competent in all aspects of operating a forklift before being awarded your qualification.

Licensing and Certification

Upon successful completion of this unit, you will receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for:

Course Fees

The TLILIC0003 – Licence to Operate a Forklift Truck course is available for $500

Please note:

  • The course fee covers both the Worksafe application fee and the HRTA administration fee.
  • HRTA will handle the Worksafe application process for you.

High Risk Training Academy (HRTA), deliver and assess this course under a third-party agreement with Harness Training RTO #40521.

Certificates are issued by Harness Training after all documentation has been submitted and course fees paid. Harness issue your certificate upon successful completion of your course, typically within 7-10 days.
